Shelter

Imagine yourself totally confused as to how to go about telling your family that you're gay.  Then one day, your unsupportive sister tells you that she's moving away and leaving you her son, the nephew  you’ve practically raised yourself anyway.  And then toss in the fact that this all comes on the heels of you falling for your best friend's older brother, a man who seems to adore you and treats you very well.  Just when your life is supposed to blossom into bigger, greater things... Pretty shitty, right?
Last night I sat down with a big bowl of popcorn and a moving gay movie called “Shelter." Set in Southern California, a young man who's stuck in a rut falls in love with his friend’s brother. I know it sounds cliché, but it works every time. Seriously, I’d have to say that this is one of the best films I’ve ever seen.  And it's not from the Weinstein brothers and it wasn't made in Hollywood with a million dollar budget.  This is an independent and I must say, I've never seen a better one.
For those that want a true-to-life picture and better understanding of what it’s like to be gay and struggling to figure out how to make it all work, you should watch “Shelter.” From the emotional rollercoaster rides the characters find themselves on to intense skin on skin action, this film delivers a hefty dose of reality in a very moving way. Plus, the incredibly hot Brad Rowe compensates the absence of Clooney or Damon. This isn’t an A list movie and in my opinion, it shouldn’t be. If everyone in the world and their dogs watched this movie, it would become overexposed and I fear the meaning behind this masterful work would be lost.  The last thing we need is another story about love, right? "Shelter" is far from just your average love story. The casting and performances  in "Shelter" are terrific.  Top that off with a gorgeous setting, terrific music and a heart wrenching story and I was hooked from the second scene. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to jump Brad Rowe’s bones right about now!  Wowza!  Bottom line guys, go rent or BUY “Shelter” today and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
I'm looking forward to seeing you here again soon. I know I haven’t been much of an online friend lately (stupid day job!) but I have a fabulous new set of reads coming soon so you'll be seeing me a bit more.

Have to say it was a nice surprise to find Abandoned Mortality on the top 25 mainstream bestsellers list over at Bookstrand.  I've got a lot on my plate for 2011 and with the success of AM, hopefully that means I'm on my way to climbing the ranks and joining some of my m/m writing heroes this year.  Happy New Year everyone.  And thanks for reading my work.

A good day and a new project...

Well, I have to say I'm a pretty lucky guy. I love December. I dig Christmas music, I love to decorate and I like to shop. To date, December has met me with good fortune in finding deals on Black Friday, a condo that was pretty easy to decorate and now looks fantastic, if I say so myself, and a new writing venture involving a few of the most talented, nicest, accepting people on the planet. The project I've been invited to work on involves four special forces operatives who are trying hard to deal with both their day jobs, which own them completely, and the people they love, which just might kill them before it's over.

Thanks to Lila, Chris, BethAnn and Jeanne for the chance to be involved in this challenging writing project.

Thanks Readers

I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of you readers out there.  Abandoned Mortality is enjoying brisk sales at ARe and as you've probably heard, getting that little star is pretty cool.  If it weren't for you, none of this would be possible.  Thanks!

Abandoned Mortality

Coming November 1st, 2010

It's not about finding the will to survive...
For Lane Ledger, being a vampire forced to walk the earth among mere mortals isn't the problem.  It's searching for a man to share his life with that's got him down.  Not to mention the constant reminder of his failure in the form of the iron pills he's forced to swallow to maintain his health, a simple requirement that could be met naturally if he were feasting on his lover's blood.

It's about finding a soul mate...
Derek McAllister only has two goals in mind:  to win the Nascar points challenge at the end of the season and to stay firmly in the closet at all costs.  After all, if his sponsors or his fans ever found out that Derek was racing to find the love of his life, his career would be over.

But when destiny brings the two men together on a late night flight, Lane realizes he has a chance to take a bite out of love.  And although he knows he shouldn't ever try it, Derek can't seem to stop himself from pursuing the possibility of finding his heart a home.
